Athletes Mental Health – Simone Biles

Mental Health affects everyone, in many different areas. Think about the last time you had a hard day, or felt bad for yourself because of COVID-19, or didn’t get an opportunity you wanted. I bet you are glad that wasn’t broadcasted to millions, who are quick to judge. Sports Mental Health or Athletes mental health is just starting to emerge. All athletes can suffer from mental health, but the results are usually slower performance. One Olympic athlete noted that all sport is 60% mental and 40% physical. Just because an Athlete isn’t competing, doesn’t mean that athletes with mental illness. Slowly athletes are starting to talk about depression, anxiety, pressure. While I don’t know the details of what happened to Simone Biles, We do know she was feeling overwhelmed I couldn’t compete. A little history about Simone Biles, she is a sexual assault survivor; Assaulted all through childhood and teenage years from her team’s doctor Larry NASCAR. In the past year, Simone Biles was competing at Nationals with a broken toe in both feet and completing at Worlds with a kidney stones. What Simone is doing for mental health will leap forward through the athletic world, allowing athletes to make their own decisions. Good for you, Simone! Take all the time you need! Take care of yourself! That is called Boundaries, we all need them! Self-care is the best care!
